Nancy Chandler's Map of Chatuchak Weekend Market

Chatuchak Weekend Market’s treasures are many but finding them isn’t always easy. We’ve been walking the market and mapping what is really where and what is worth hunting down since 1974, without taking a single Baht for listings.

Among other contents within the map are unusual tips (alternative ways to get to the market and how to stand in line at the restrooms, for example), the location of ATMs and airconditioned cafes (on a hot day, worth the price of the map alone), plus shopping locations around the market (not just within it) including the vegetarian food court down an otherwise nondescript lane and fabulous furniture finds up and around the corner.

Normally sold only as part of Nancy Chandler’s Map of Bangkok, this is the first time this map is available as an individual title.

American artist Nancy Chandler moved to Thailand in 1969 and published the first edition of her detailed map of Bangkok in 1974 as an illustration for the American Women's Club magazine. It proved so popular with not just members but the greater expatriate community as well that Nancy was soon pressured into publishing it independently.

Her map of Chiang Mai followed in 1980, when the magazine sent Nancy north to illustrate a story on the city shortly after she had been captivated by it on a holiday with her young children. Her keen sense of adventure and humor eventually resulted in an extensive range of greeting cards and gifts, each of which celebrates and enhances the experience of Thailand and all things Thai.

Nancy passed away in her home town of Mill Valley, California, in 2015, but her eldest daughter and business partner Nima carries on the business.
