Importing Brushes into Photoshop

How to Import Photoshop Brushes on Desktop


Download the Brush File:

  • Download the Photoshop brush file (ending in .abr)


Open Photoshop:

  • Launch Photoshop on your computer.

Open the Brush Panel:

  • Go to the Window menu at the top of the screen and select Brushes or press F5 to open the Brush panel.
  • Alternatively, you can select the Brush tool from the left toolbar (it looks like a paintbrush) and then access the brush settings from the top menu.

Load Brushes:

  • In the Brush panel, click the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the upper-right corner.
  • From the dropdown menu, select Import Brushes.

Select the Brush File:

  • A file dialog will open. Navigate to the folder where you downloaded or saved the .abr brush file.
  • Select the brush file and click Open.




Access the New Brushes:

  • Once the brushes are imported, you'll find them at the bottom of the Brush panel. Simply select preferred brush from the list, and you can start painting with it right away.



Optional: Save the Brushes for Future Use:

  • To save these brushes permanently, click the hamburger menu again and choose Save Brushes to save them for later.



How to Import Photoshop Brushes on iPad (Photoshop for iPad)


Download the Brush File:

  • Download the brush file to your iPad (make sure it’s an .abr file format not zipped file).


Open Photoshop on Your iPad:

  • Launch Adobe Photoshop on your iPad.


Open the Brush Settings:

  • Tap on the Brush Tool (it looks like a paintbrush icon) from the right toolbar to activate the brush options.
  • Once the brush tool is active, tap on the brush icon at the top of the screen to open the Brush Settings panel.



Import Brushes:

  • In the Brush Settings panel, tap on the gear icon at the top right.
  • From the menu, choose Import Brushes.


Select the Brush File:

  • A file dialog will appear. Locate the .abr brush file on your iPad using the Files app or any other location where you saved the file.
  • Tap the brush file to import it.


Access the New Brushes:

  • Once imported, your new brushes will appear in the brush list in the Brush Settings panel. Select your new brush and start using it.


Optional: Organize Brushes:

  • You can organize your brushes by creating new folders or moving brushes around in the Brush Settings panel.
