Working with epoxy resin can be incredibly rewarding, but like any craft, it comes with its challenges. When I first started, I made a ton of mistakes that could’ve been easily avoided with the right knowledge. So, I’ve put together this guide to help you steer clear of the most common pitfalls! 🚫✨

Let’s dive in! 👇

1. Incorrect Resin-to-Hardener Ratio ⚖️

Using too much or too little hardener can leave your resin sticky, soft, or brittle. The surprising culprit? Inaccurate scales! Sometimes, even if your scale looks like it’s working fine, a low battery can throw off your measurements.

Solution: Before every big project, double-check your scale and replace the battery regularly. This small habit can save you from a lot of frustration and ensure flawless results!

2. Poor Mixing – A Mistake 40% of Beginners Make 🎨

One of the most common errors is improper mixing. If the resin and hardener aren’t blended thoroughly, your piece might not cure properly, stay tacky, or develop unwanted defects.

What to do? Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for mixing time. Personally, I stir for at least 2–3 minutes and mix twice to ensure everything is fully combined. This method helps avoid curing issues and guarantees a smooth, professional finish.

👉 Tip: Make sure your resin is well-mixed before pouring—it’s one of the most critical steps for perfect results!

3. Don’t Ignore Safety – Your Health Matters! 🛡️

When mixing Part A and Part B, epoxy resin releases fumes that can be harmful if inhaled over time. These fumes may accumulate in your body, potentially causing allergies or other health issues—even if you don’t notice any symptoms right away.

Solution: Always use protective gear! A respirator, gloves, and arm sleeves are essential to keeping yourself safe while working with resin.

Remember: resin art is safe when you take the right precautions.

Plan ahead, protect yourself, and create without compromising your health! 💪

4. Ignoring Temperature & Humidity – A Common Mistake! 🌡️💧

Temperature and humidity play a crucial role in how your resin behaves. These factors affect how beautifully your patterns develop and how smooth and glossy the final finish will be.

If the environment isn’t right, your piece simply won’t turn out the way you envisioned.

Important: Always monitor the temperature and humidity of your workspace. These are the foundations of a successful project!

I dive deep into all the details about creating the perfect resin environment in my tutorials and workshops, but trust me — even the simplest design can fail if you ignore these basics.

5. Material Quality is the Key to Success! 🏆

When you’re just starting out with resin, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed: Which resin is best?

What materials should I choose?

At that moment, all you really want is for your creations to turn out beautiful from the very first try. But here’s the truth: the quality of your materials directly impacts your results.

There are so many resin brands on the market, and it can be tough for beginners to pick the right one. Of course, the choice is yours, but remember: the final outcome depends heavily on the materials you use.

Personally, I work with Italian resin Resin Pro.

I know everything about it—and, most importantly, I know how to create truly stunning pieces with it!

Invest in Your Skills 🎓

That’s why I always recommend that beginners invest in at least

one good course.

A quality class will help you understand materials, avoid common mistakes, and level up your skills quickly.
