Previously I wrote about the size of NCAA D3 baseball players. Now let’s look at the starting lineups from the 2024 NCAA D2 College World Series.
- Starting Pitcher. 6’ 2 ⅛”, 194 pounds.
- Catcher. 6’, 199 pounds.
- First Base. 6’ ¾”, 209 pounds.
- Second Base. 6’, 182 pounds.
- Third Base. 6’ ½”, 196 pounds.
- Shortstop. 5’ 11 ⅛”, 187 pounds.
- Left Field. 5’ 10 ⅞”, 184 pounds.
- Centerfield. 5’ 11 ¼”, 185 pounds.
- Right Field. 6’ ⅛”, 191 pounds.
- Designated Hitter. 6’, 201 pounds.
What stands out to me is height. In the D3 World Series finals, half of the players were over 6 feet tall. At the D2 level it’s two thirds. The biggest size difference is in starting pitching. On average they’re 2 ¼” inches taller and 15 pounds heavier than the D3 starting pitchers.
These are dudes.
