NOSEDIVE

VIDEO LINK

A detective awakes aboard an abandoned plane. The plane is stalled and is caught in a deadly nosedive. The aircraft's flight system has been damaged, making it impossible to control. In the back of the plane, a criminal known as the dealer has placed three crates with a riddle above.

Three crates lie before you, none store their claims, one says shoots, one says snakes and one says both by the same names. The cargo truth sits hidden and concealed, you must relabel all crates, or the exit door stays sealed. The labels deceive, the truths tucked inside, but open more than one, and you won't survive the ride. The detective looks for the single crate to be opened.

After opening one crate and relabeling all three, the plane door opens and the detective jumps. which crate did the detective open to help label the rest?

ANSWER:

The detective opened the crate labeled "Both."

Since all the labels are incorrect, the crate labeled "Both" cannot actually contain both itemsโ€”it must contain only "Shoots" or only "Snakes." By opening this crate and seeing which single item is inside, the detective can logically deduce the correct contents of the other two crates. For example, if the "Both" crate contains only Shoots, then the crate labeled "Snakes" cannot be Snakes (label is wrong) and cannot be Shoots (already found), so it must be Both. That leaves the last crate (labeled "Shoots") to be Snakes. Thus, by opening just the "Both" crate, the detective can correctly relabel all three.
