How did I get from being "just a hobby artist" to having a business notice me? Even just a little?

How did I get from being “just a hobby artist” to having a business notice me? Even just a little?

Honestly… I still ask myself that.

I’m still in awe. I can’t believe it actually happened. But it did happen. I painted my first business window, and somehow I’m still going. Now I suddenly have more possibilities.

So my theory is:

It starts with one.

One painting.

One conversation.

One chance.

One person noticing your work outside of your family and close circle.

One moment where you decide to stop hiding what you create.

I think that’s how dreams start. Then you have to find your motivation. Find your “Why am I doing this?”

This didn’t happen because I suddenly became fearless or fully confident. Honestly, most of the time I still feel awkward, and I overthink conversations all the time. I still notice every flaw in myself before anyone else does. But little by little, I opened up and let strangers or acquaintances check out what I was creating.

It started when I practiced on my own window back in October 2023, and people actually stopped to watch me paint. I live on a fairly busy street, so cars would slow down, and people would stare, wave, or compliment my work while I was outside painting. I was nervous, but I kept going anyway.

I don’t usually take compliments very well. Honestly, I’d rather hide most of the time, but I’m trying to step outside of my comfort zone little by little. I did take a break after my second surgery, but that’s a story for another time. When I finally felt up to it, I picked up the paintbrush again in 2025.

One practice window turned into another.

Sketches turned into conversations.

Conversations turned into opportunities.

Am I a perfect artist? No. But I am a practicing artist. And I think people respond to passion, consistency, and seeing someone genuinely trying. Somehow, those genuine little moments slowly helped me overcome stepping outside my comfort zone. Which helped me paint my first business window art.
