In the beginning of this year I decided to leave Instagram and Facebook. Not just because of the recent political things that's affected those social medias but for a long time I had felt that my posts there aren't being seen by anyone. Not even my friends from real life. And it made me question a lot whether or not my art is actually even worth posting online.
In January I slowly started building my art portfolio on Cara app and recently I shared my thoughts about leaving IG there. This is what I wrote:

One thing I didn't expect to happen when I left Instagram!
👉 I learned what people actually like about my art! 😳
Meaning that I learned which topics in my drawings/paintings are the most interesting to other people.
This is super important knowledge so I can make more of the things people want me to make! 🤩
❓But what does this have to do with leaving Instagram?
During my years on IG I didn't get much likes at all and the ones I got always felt a bit fake. Like the person hitting the heart button only wants me to notice them. I think many IG users only interact with others to boost their own visibility. (Not all of them though! I had good art friends on IG too with whom we had a mutual supporting communication! 🩷) It's understandable as getting your stuff seen on IG isn't easy..
Now that I've moved here it's all different.
I feel like people hit the like button here when they actually like something and they want to show their support to the artist. It's not always the newest posts that get the likes and it's not always those posts you pin or move upwards in your portfolio either. (I like to move things around in my portfolio a lot 🤩 That's one of my favorite feature on Cara.)
It's been interesting to follow which ones of my drawings and paintings get the most likes and which ones are not so popular. By far I've made these observations:
People seem to like cake, cats, human faces, the color pink, ice cream, word puns ..and tentacles 🤔😅
The last one was the biggest surprise for me. From all of my posts the 'Big Trouble' painting has gotten the most likes so far. The funny part is I don't even like it that much myself.. 🤣
So one lesson of this story would also be: Post the artwork you don't like so much yourself. You'll never know.. That might be well liked by others 😁

This post got so many nice comments from people and it started a good conversation about why do we even post our creations online. Of course we want to be seen. And we want an honest feedback of our art. Not just fake likes.
The funny thing is that people had made similar observations about what others like in their art. The color pink and tentacles especially were much liked for some reason. 🤔😁
My tentacle themed painting "Big Trouble" is featured as a cover image of this blog post. Do you think it was worth posting online for people to see?
