Fay Corner Autumn

Hello and welcome to my little corner of the creative world!

I love handmade creations, stories, and little things that make everyday life feel a bit more magical. I love working with my hands, exploring old crafts, and finding inspiration in nature, memories, and the wonderful world of imagination.

And what better time to talk about all these things than autumn?

This October, I found myself thinking about how easily we allow our attention, time, and money to be pulled toward things that have very little to do with the present moment.

At the beginning of the month, I walked into a local store looking for a nice autumn mug, only to find the shelves already filled with Christmas decorations. It was a little bizarre, but it also made me think about how much I enjoy letting each season unfold in its own time.

For me, autumn is an endless treasure trove of creative inspiration. The shorter days and cooler air invite us to slow down, rediscover our own rhythms, and find pleasure in simple rituals.

The world outside grows quieter, and we light a little flame within ourselves. Making things by hand is one of the loveliest ways to kindle that light.

Autumn also brings back memories of an older world I remember from my childhood.

I often think of those familiar scenes from the countryside: geese, ducks, and chickens wandering along the streets, children playing, and adults busy with their daily work.

And, of course, the women standing outside their houses with brooms in hand.

As children, we could walk up and down the same street a dozen times, and every time, we had to greet the women standing outside their homes. We might have been in a hurry, busy with our own important childhood business, but that didn't matter. You had to stop and say hello.

Because if you walked past without greeting them, your parents would soon hear all about your terrible manners!

I wonder if this kind of housewife, keeping an eye on the neighborhood while sweeping her doorstep, is a familiar sight in other parts of the world too.

Do you have any memories of them?

Giving Old Things a New Life

Autumn is also a wonderful time for new beginnings, and sometimes that means giving something old a fresh look.

I recently gave my wardrobe a little makeover with some folk-inspired motifs. These patterns are wonderfully simple and don't require any great painting skills. A few colors, a little patience, and your own hands can completely transform a familiar piece of furniture.

I love how a small change like this can bring an entirely new atmosphere into a room. And we shouldn't underestimate the effect of color on our mood. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creative rearranging to make our surroundings feel fresh and inviting again.

Copper, Gold, and a Little Something Sweet

The warm copper and golden tones of autumn always awaken my imagination. They also inspire me to create little rituals that make the season feel special.

One of my favorite autumn rituals is preparing something delicious in the kitchen. Here's a simple pear treat that's perfect for improvisation.

Baked Pears with Honey, Nuts, and Chocolate

You'll need:

- A few ripe pears

- Honey

- Walnuts

- Melted chocolate

- Chopped walnuts, almonds, or any nuts you like

Here's how I make them:

1. Peel the pears, cut them in half, and scoop out the cores.

2. Bake them in a preheated oven at 220°C (425°F) for about 15–20 minutes.

3. Let them cool, then fill the centers with honey and walnuts.

4. Drizzle with melted chocolate and sprinkle with your favorite chopped nuts.

5. Chill, then enjoy!

The best part is that you can experiment with all kinds of combinations. Try different nuts, add a little cinnamon, or use your favorite chocolate. There's no need to follow a strict recipe when you can make it your own.

A Little Creative Adventure

For those of us who love to play, autumn is also the perfect excuse to go all out with decorations.

Personally, I will always skip Halloween decor. There's already enough darkness in the world, so I'd rather bring a little extra light into it by creating playful tributes to ordinary pumpkins.

This little pumpkin, for example, has a secret: it glows! If you'd love to make one of your own, you can learn how in my online workshop.Seasonal decor
