Yesterday, I was taken completely out of commission by a migraine. Not just a headache — a full-body shutdown. My vision blurred. My strength faded. My energy disappeared. I couldn’t move the way I normally do. I couldn’t function. Everything stopped.
And as I laid still, trying to recover, something profound hit me: when the head is out of commission, the whole body suffers.
Physically, that makes sense. The brain controls everything. Movement. Reflexes. Sensation. Focus. But this experience reminded me of a deeper, more spiritual and psychological truth: what’s happening in our mind — though intangible — affects everything in our life.
Just like that migraine incapacitated my body, a misaligned, cluttered, or overwhelmed mind can throw our whole life off balance. Think about it:
• When you’re mentally exhausted, you procrastinate or withdraw.
• When you’re filled with fear or self-doubt, you self-sabotage.
• When you’re emotionally distressed, even simple decisions feel impossible.
• When your thoughts are disorganized, your actions become inconsistent.
It’s easy to dismiss the mind because we can’t physically touch it. But the results of what happens in our head always show up in our actions, our bodies, our relationships, and our daily lives. The intangible has tangible consequences.
This is why your thoughts matter.
Scripture reminds us, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). You can’t rise above your mindset. You can’t walk in peace if your thoughts are consumed with chaos. You can’t lead others effectively if your own mind is not submitted to God and aligned with truth.
You become what you repeatedly think.
This is why the Word also urges us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). If transformation is the goal, then mind renewal is the path. The state of your mind is not a side issue — it’s the main battleground.
So today I ask you:
What thoughts are you entertaining that are slowly shutting you down?
What lies are taking up residence in your head and throwing your life out of balance?
Are you giving your mind the same care and attention you give your body?
Because when the head is not right — when the mind is cluttered, unhealed, or distracted — everything is out of order.
But the beauty of the mind is this: God gave you authority over it. You don’t have to be a victim of your thoughts. You can choose to confront them, replace them, and renew them.
That’s not just therapy — that’s truthwork.
So today, let’s realign. Let’s take our minds seriously. Let’s be intentional about what we allow to live in our headspace. Because when the mind is whole, the life can move forward.
