Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain (Proverbs 31:30)

I was reading Proverbs 31 when verse 30 stopped me in my tracks. I looked intently at the words that said;

 “Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that fears Yahuah, she shall be praised. Mishlei (Proverbs) 31:30

CEPHER Bible

These words had caught my attention and seemed to require greater examination.

“Favour is deceitful”

What does that mean exactly?

The word favour in Hebrew is the word Hen (חֵן), meaning; favour, grace, precious or pleasant;

Bible hub notes:

 “External charm divorced from fear of Yah is fleeting

(as found on BibleHub’s commentary on Proverbs 31:30)

I believe this to mean when we are given grace or kindness is extent towards us. We are not to place ourselves above the Most Yah because we’re given favour. Rather, we are to remember who put us into the favourable position in the first place.

It is not by our own might, appearance or strength that we gain favour. Yah is the one who changes how people view each of us, which causes us to be put into a favourable position.

We see this with Esther, Joseph and Daniel

Always remember who made you favourable.

“Beauty is vain”

In this world maintaining an “youthful appearance” is extremely sought after. Many people rather look beautiful on the outside than be beautiful on the inside.

As with many things, time allows that appearance to gradually fade. Leaving people a hollow shell, so that when they look in the mirror they finally see, they were ugly all along. Because beauty is not about appearance but how one carries themselves, as well as who and what they stand for.

Women and individuals in general who fear Yahuah have great wisdom and value.

 “The fear of Yahuah is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding”

Mishlei (Proverbs) 9:10 CEPHER Bible

So choose wisdom.

Choose the fear of Yahuah

Seek him and serving him only.

Then will your value shine and others will see Yah in you and give you praise for it.
