As the seasons shift, the changes in the air bring powerful energy into our lives. For witches and spiritual practitioners, these seasonal shifts are key to personal transformation and alchemy. No matter what you’ve gone through before, the beauty of witchcraft lies in the ability to shed old energies and embrace new beginnings with each passing season. Fall, for me, is a particularly magical time. Mabon, marking the Autumn Equinox, offers a perfect opportunity for self-reflection and balance. I like to prepare by taking care of myself—resting, hydrating, cleansing my home, and embracing the cozy warmth of fall recipes. This is the time for roasted dishes, apple pies (which I'm still perfecting, but it's the journey that counts!), and my favorite Wiccan bread.

Witchcraft allows us to shift our energy, leaving behind negativity and recreating ourselves in harmony with nature. With the fall’s crisp air and changing leaves, I embrace a fresh mindset. As the year winds down, I reflect on how I want to finish the year on a positive note. If things haven’t gone smoothly, it’s never too late to turn things around. I remind myself, as a solitary witch, that this season holds immense power to create change, not just for myself but for others as well.
This time of year, also calls for some simple yet effective spell work. Here’s a little spell I like to do for embracing fall energy and setting positive intentions:
Autumn Energy Spell:
- Gather an apple, cinnamon, and a candle (preferably orange or brown for fall).
- Hold the apple in your hands and imagine it absorbing any negativity from your year.
- Light the candle, and as the flame flickers, sprinkle cinnamon over the apple, saying: "As the seasons change, I let go of the old. I welcome the new, fresh energy to unfold."
- Leave the apple on your altar or outside as an offering, allowing nature to take away what no longer serves you.
Along with spell work, I take the time to cleanse my space thoroughly. While many people blow cinnamon into their homes, I like to sweep my floors with cinnamon powder, creating a welcoming environment for positive energy. I also burn cinnamon on a charcoal disc to remove negativity and invite good luck into my home.
Cleansing my altar is another essential practice, especially during full moons and new moons, where energy tends to be most potent. I take this time to meditate, listen to soft music, and set the mood with candles and low lighting. Whether it’s prayer, burning petitions, or performing small spells, these quiet moments allow me to tune in and connect with my spiritual practice.
As the holidays approach, I focus on helping my clients find their own peace and positivity through tarot readings and supportive spell work. By embracing the fall season, I open the doors for new opportunities and growth, both for myself and for others.
What about you? How will you use the magic of fall to end your year on a positive note?
