Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [Matthew 5:3]
When your spirit is full of defilement (Mark 7:21-23 & Galatians 5:19-21) then you are not poor in spirit. For you only become poor in spirit when all the defilement in your spirit are cast out. And then your spirit is emptied out for the reception of the kingdom of God.
Being poor; that means you are lacking, and if you are lacking you are seeking. If you are lacking and seeking that means the only way to obtain your need is to humble yourself enough to beg or become a beggar. So when you are poor in spirit the only possession you seek after is the reception of the kingdom of God.
Apostle Paul said let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, as I paraphrase, he said he considered all his worldly possessions nothing but waste so he may gain Christ.
You can only be poor in spirit or rich in spirit. Being poor in spirit means you do not have or you lack everything that defile a man, it means you are without everything that is in constant pursuit of gratifying the flesh.
Being rich in spirit means you do not have any of the fruit of the spirit and you lust after the flesh in ignorance; the lust of the eyes, the lust of the world and your heart is full of everything that defile a man
And the only way to possess the kingdom of God is if you are poor in spirit; the only way to possess the kingdom of God is that you lack every defilement and be filled with the fruit of the spirit in that you patiently wait on Christ Jesus our King of kings and Lord of lords.
You cannot possess the kingdom of God while your heart remains bound to the worldly treasure possessions. For these things rage war against your soul. For these things only pull you away from your poorness in spirit and fill you up with the riches of this world which only defile your soul.
The flesh and the spirit are contrary one to the other. Either you are poor in spirit (meaning you possess the fruit of the spirit) or you are rich in spirit (which means you possess all the fruit of the flesh which defile a man).
Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
