Among the many human beings—the ones scientific books call Homo Sapiens—these two did not stand out at all. You could walk right past them and never wonder who they were. But for some reason, you might suddenly want to stop near them, and then, after a while, feel reluctant to continue your journey. This is a perfectly normal reaction for any living soul. It’s because these two radiated something invisible to the untrained eye—something that helps a person take a short break from the endless race of life and finally feel inner silence. They radiated harmony and balance.
They looked ordinary. They weren't unusual in age or height; they wore quiet clothes, drove an unremarkable car, and ate the simplest foods. It was hard to tell their nationality, so in every country, they were mistaken for locals. Perhaps there is no longer a Master left on Earth who could see with certainty that this was an eternal couple, unable to exist without one another. They were Life and Entropy (commonly called Death), only in physical form.
Her name was Vita, and she was Endless. The energy she carried within her would be enough to create or destroy an entire world with all its star systems—and perhaps more than one.
Her husband, Mumo*, was a Dead Master of Death. He had died several years ago, yet he continued his physical life as a human, keeping both his personality and his consciousness. It’s hard to believe, but such things happen even to the most ordinary people.
They were both part of something greater, but they came into the physical world without memory, without the slightest idea of who they were, and without understanding the tasks they had to solve. Quite a funny puzzle! And a completely necessary one. They say you must live in someone else’s shoes for a while to truly understand them.
Instead of taking "someone else’s shoes", they simply created their own physical bodies. Bodies that were born to learn how to breathe and walk, to say "I want!", to cry over trifles, to learn new things, to get a passport, and to move to another city. To the very city where these two people (as they called themselves) finally met.
Mumo learned very early how to see and hear the world of energies. Vita, in that sense, was still like a blind kitten. She constantly asked Mumo about what was happening around them, even though she herself could look incredibly far through time and space and translate what she saw into plain human language. But Vita was always curious about what was happening "here and now" (though "here" and "now" are very relative terms). For example, she wondered how the Scandinavian gods were doing; what the Bastards were up to; what the kghrkhs** were thinking about; what tasks the doppelgängers were working on; and a thousand other topics.
Mumo and Vita studied themselves, their human bodies, their human reactions, other people, and other beings. Essentially, they did what any person does whose interests go beyond their dinner plate.
And gradually, they began to know more and more…
*Mumo - stress on the first syllable
**A kghrh is a creature in the service of Entropy; it prunes away the excess of human emotions. They live in packs and remain invisible to humans. In appearance, they slightly resemble dogs
