Welcome...You’re Not Doing This Wrong
If reading feels hard at home, I want you to hear this first:
You are not failing your child.
And if faith feels hard to practice consistently, especially in the middle of busy days, emotions, and exhaustion, you’re not doing that wrong either.
Most parents I work with care deeply.
They want to help.
They’re trying.
What they’re missing isn’t effort.
It’s clarity.
This blog exists because I’ve seen the same thing over and over again, both as a former classroom teacher and as a reading specialist:
The biggest changes for kids don’t happen at school.
👉 They happen at home, in small moments, repeated gently over time.
At the kitchen table.
During bedtime routines.
In the words we choose when our child gets stuck.
In the rhythms we build... even imperfectly.
This space is for parents who want to take action, but don’t want more pressure, guilt, or noise telling them they’re behind.
Here, you’ll find:
- simple reading support you can actually use
- faith practices that fit real family life
- tools that replace guessing with confidence
- encouragement without overwhelm
No performative faith.
No “do more, try harder” advice.
Just steady, doable support.
And before you scroll away, here is something practical.
So here’s a small shift you can try today.
A Simple Tip You Can Use Tonight
The next time you sit down to read with your child, try this:
Before correcting a word, pause and say nothing for three seconds.
That’s it.
Those three seconds give your child’s brain time to:
- attempt the word on their own
- decide how they want to approach it
- feel ownership instead of pressure
If they try, even imperfectly, you can respond with support instead of correction:
- “You started that. Let’s finish it together.”
- “I like how you tried the first sound.”
And if they freeze?
You’ve learned something important... not about effort, but about readiness.
This is how reading confidence is built:
Not through longer sessions.
Not through more correction.
But through safe, calm moments where trying feels okay.
If you’re here, I’m really glad you found this space.
You don’t need a perfect routine.
You don’t need to be a teacher.
You just need the right support...and a place to start.
More tools, guidance, and rhythms are coming.
But for now, start small.
Three seconds.
One moment.
One step at a time 🤍
