Some weekends leave you tired.
Others leave you inspired.
My weekend at the Pen & Platform: Rep Ya City Book Expo in Dayton, Ohio was definitely the second one.
As an indie author, every event is more than just selling books. It’s an opportunity to meet readers face-to-face, connect with fellow authors, learn from people walking similar paths, and remind myself why I started this journey in the first place.
Traveling from Baltimore to Dayton wasn’t just about attending another book event it was about representing my city, my stories, and every late night I’ve spent believing in this dream.
Walking into the venue and seeing so many talented authors under one roof was incredibly motivating. Every table held a different story, a different journey, and a different reason someone decided to bet on themselves. Being surrounded by that kind of passion is something every creative needs from time to time.
Of course, one of my favorite parts was meeting readers.
There’s something special about watching someone pick up one of your books, read the back cover, ask questions about your characters, and decide to take your story home. Those moments never get old. They’re reminders that the words I write in quiet moments eventually find their way into someone else’s hands and hopefully, their heart.
The weekend also gave me the chance to connect with fellow authors, exchange ideas, celebrate wins, and encourage one another. The indie author community is filled with people who understand the highs, the lows, and everything in between, and those conversations are just as valuable as the event itself.
Every event teaches me something new.
Sometimes it’s about books.
Sometimes it’s about business.
Sometimes it’s simply a reminder that growth doesn’t happen overnight it happens one reader, one conversation, and one opportunity at a time.
I left Dayton feeling grateful.
Grateful for every person who stopped by my table.
Grateful for every new reader who trusted me with their time.
Grateful for every author who shared encouragement and wisdom.
And grateful that I get to call this my career.
To everyone who supported me throughout the weekend whether you purchased a book, shared my posts, cheered me on from home, or simply believed in me thank you.
Your support allows me to continue creating stories that celebrate love, growth, healing, and the beautifully messy moments in between.
Here’s to many more cities, many more readers, and many more stories waiting to be told.
See you at the next event. 💜
