When God’s Preparation Looks Like Chaos

Last year, God began preparing me for the very things I’m walking in today. The funny thing about God’s preparation is that it doesn’t always look like preparation; it often looks like destruction, chaos, and famine. But what if I told you that those very moments are the tools God uses to bless and shape you? Now, don’t misunderstand me, I’m not saying that God can only bless you through hardship. What I’m saying is that when God starts preparing you for destiny, that preparation is often met with calamity. Have you ever followed God only to find yourself in a battle?

As I reflect on my life, I can’t help but notice a pattern: every time I sensed God shifting me into something new, it was accompanied by some kind of fight. And in most cases, that battle wasn’t external; it was within me. It was the struggle of breaking up with the version of myself I had grown comfortable with. The version that felt safe, predictable, and familiar. But here’s the truth: comfort rarely leads to growth, and I was never truly satisfied staying the same. 2 Corinthians 3:18 reminds us that walking with God is a continuous transformation. I like to think of it like the changing of the leaves on a tree. Each season brings a new phase of blooming, withering, falling, and replenishing. Just like the trees, we are meant to change, too. I’ve learned that certain obstacles come into our lives to both kill and reveal the idols in our hearts and to reveal what’s been hidden beneath. An idol is anything we place before God: a friend, our children, our spouse, our job, or even our own ambitions. It’s not always the thing itself that’s the problem, but our posture toward it, the level of devotion or dependence we give it that belongs only to God. Idols become strongholds, things exalted above God that must be torn down. He reminds us in His Word that He is a jealous God, and rightly so, because He alone deserves our worship and the center of our hearts.

Last year, I received several prophetic words, many of which have already come to pass, and others are still unfolding. But in each one, a part of me had to die before the promise could manifest. God required me to tear down mental strongholds and belief systems that kept me in cycles He was calling me out of. God showed me glimpses of my future to remind me of my destination. His word has been my anchor. So, to anyone reading this who’s struggling right now, what word has God spoken to you? Because chances are, that word came with a fight you didn’t ask for. But here’s the good news: if God gave you His Word, that’s all you need.

He said His Word will not return to Him void; it will accomplish what He sent it to do. So hold on. Don’t give up. Don’t move out of position just because things don’t look the way you expected. Seek first the Kingdom and watch God’s hand move in your direction.

And remember, the battle didn’t come to kill you.

It came to reveal who God has called you to be!
