Paid Reviews? No Way!

(Click to watch the vlog)

For all my writer friends or others who might be thinking about self-publishing. DO NOT buy book reviews. Buying book reviews can cause you trouble with the Amazon platform. Amazon is a bit crazy about deleting suspicious book reviews and reserves the right to revoke your privilege to publish your book on their platform if they deem that you violated their policy.

Amazon is really against anything that might manipulate their system and cause them to have angry customers. Having said that, it's acceptable to gift a copy of your book to someone who wishes to read it for free and leave an honest review. Just be sure not to give your books to your family and close friends as they're considered to be part of those things which manipulate Amazon's system. You need only have an email address if you want to give your published book to someone else.

Having said that, if you're a fan, it doesn't hurt to reach out to authors. I'd love more reviews of my books. Sadly, I can only ask and hope readers will be kind and leave me one or two. To all who have left me reviews Thank you Soooo! much. It's always nice to read what people think of my stories. If you ever have an issue with any of my stories, just have a comment or suggestion, or have any questions about the books, the dream, Ophelia Kee, etc... please reach out and start a conversation. I'd love to hear from you.

A Book Review/Endorsement

I was recently contacted by an indie sci-fi author with the request that I review his book. Now before this gets carried away, I agreed for a few reasons. I'm currently on summer vacation as a school teacher, so I have a bit of time. I was already looking for a new read while on the elliptical machine at the gym, and I was asked super nicely.

The Year Before the End: Deceit and betrayal have put not just their lives on the line, but the future of humanity (Sovereign Earth Book 1)

Book 1 of 1: Sovereign Earth  | by Vidar Hokstad  | Nov 19, 2020 27Kindle$0.00$0.00  Free with Kindle Unlimited membership Join Now Or $2.99 to buyPaperback$14.99$14.99

I purchased the book. It wasn't gifted to me as an ARC. I'm a verified purchase reviewer for Amazon and have been for many years. (Long before I began writing.) However, I AM NOT in the habit of reviewing books upon request. So before everyone asks, I simply don't have the time to be a book reviewer. I work full-time and write full-time. I do have to sleep sometimes. I can't meet any deadlines, and I only review books that I purchase. (I'm practically broke from buying books as it is and lack funds to buy more than I can read.) I don't write in the sci-fi genre, but I do like to read it once and a while. (Although one never knows. An apocalyptic romance novel might be rolling around in my head.)

This is my review. Y'all, Vidar Hokstad writes the science part of science fiction too well. I swear I could see myself on board the spaceship floating around in zero gravity. That was super cool. The characters were neat and the modified human beings were well-written. Okay, I'm trying not to give the story away obviously, so just go read it.

A lot of people look down on indie books and complain that self-published is substandard compared to traditionally published, but this story is one of the ones looking to make people rethink that load of garbage. If you like science fiction space travel with a bit of intrigue and grandiose spy operations, then this might need to make its way onto your TBR. I liked it and am looking forward to what's next from Vidar Hokstad.

All right, it's summer and that means I travel. So I'm off. Texas and home here I come. Florida is nice, the job is good, but I love Texas. I'm publishing the next blog from home. Y'all be safe and wish me an easy journey. I'll check back in next week. As always, when you read, be kind and leave those reviews.

Be Careful!

Happy Reading,

Ophelia Kee.
