Lucid Chocolates take risks to create truly unique chocolate.
I my opinion, this sometimes means a truly unique wonderful chocolate, and sometimes it means a chocolate that only experts will appreciate,
Lucid 68% Port is one of these chocolates. At first I did not like this chocolate, it was well crafted with a fantastic melt in your mouth experience, but the Port flavour hid the floral tones a great bean would have. In fact i confused the Port for a earthy flavour that comes from over fermented beans. I did eat the whole bar, so i discovered that the Port offered a unique chocolate experience, with the late flavours associated with the melt being driven by the Port not the chocolate. Once I realised this, I appreciated the craftsmanship in this bar.
A well-crafted bar, and a silky smooth texture. The chocolatier took a bold approach to soaking the beans in 10 year old Portuguese Tawny Port. The flavour is present, but I feel the Port, sugar, and Cocoa are on top of each other. If you are expecting a classic chocolate then the flavour might not be for you, but if you are looking for a new chocolate experience, you will not be disappointed.
