HB Henriot Quimper popularized Breton folk figures ( Bigouden, peasants, petit breton, fishermen), everyday tableware, and decorative pieces for both local use and export, becoming emblematic of Breton regional ceramics.

Typical forms

  • Plates, chargers, bowls, pitchers, jugs, faience figurines, jardinières, and covered terrines; also tiles and decorative plaques.

Decorative styles & motifs

  • Breton figures: hand-painted rustic characters in traditional Breton costume, often in pairs or family groups.
  • Floral and foliate borders: stylized flowers, vines, and shell motifs framing central scenes.
  • Nautical and coastal scenes: lighthouses, boats, fishing scenes reflecting Brittany’s maritime culture.
  • Polychrome palette: vivid cobalt blue, yellow, green, manganese/brown outlines, and ochres; strong use of black/brown for outlines.
  • Quimper "petit Breton" and "grand Breton" variations — small vs larger-scale figure depiction.

Marks & dating tips

  • Common mark: HB in a simple form, often with "QUIMPER" and sometimes "FRANCE" or "HB Henriot" added; marks evolved over time—hand-painted marks indicate earlier or studio pieces, stamped or printed marks suggest later factory production.
