Everything is FINE

We all say it…Fine.

It’s Fine. I’m Fine. You’re Fine.

What does that even mean, ‘Fine’?

Every one of us has said “Fine” as a retort in frustration, anger, annoyance…but that’s not even what we’re talking about here. Just fine in terms of sincerely feeling like things are ok, status quo, just another day in paradise.

But is it, really?

You’re moving through the days - getting things done, staying busy, keeping life full. And yet, in the quieter moments, something surfaces…

  • Is this all there is?

  • What am I supposed to do now?

  • What do I actually want?

Life has stages, chapters, seasons; and through all the twists and turns, there are choices, decisions, forks in the road and more often than not, a few surprises along the way.

If you’ve found yourself at a crossroads or just even a little lost, perhaps you’ve left your Self out of the equation for so long, you’ve forgotten what truly lights you up.

If everything feels fine, maybe it truly is just that - Perfectly Fine. And that’s an awesome place to be!

But to be honest, if you’re here reading this, its probably not. You might be feeling, well, a little off, lost or just tired of whatever it is that’s going on day-in-and-day-out and looking for answers.

So maybe it's time to pause, reassess, reflect...and

Remember Who You Are

Take a few minutes for yourself and try this simple exercise to explore a bit:

Take 5 & Pause…

  • Step away for a few moments.
  • No phone, computer, TV, to-do list.
  • Sit somewhere quiet - your comfy chair, the porch swing, or just step outside.
  • Take a slow breath in and a longer breath out.
  • Let your body settle, relax your shoulders, unclench your jaw.
  • For these next few minutes, there’s nothing to deal with, nothing to solve.

Ask…

  • What have I been setting aside?
  • What feels off?
  • What do I really want now?
  • Let yourself sense it. No analyzing. No fixing.

Unless your answer to what you want now is a cookie – then by all means, go get one – easy fix!

(But I digress and now I want a freakin' cookie!)

Let the question linger and see what if anything, it expands into, rather than pushing for an answer.

Notice…

  • What shows up?

  • What comes to mind?

It may come as a realization, a memory, a sensation, a single word, or one simple truth.

It may be soft. It may be sudden. It may be like a light bulb just popped up over your head. But it will feel real, and true, and above all, YOU.

(And now I’m starting to sound like Dr. Seuss – IYKYK)

Acknowledge…

Give the thought space and language:

Right now, what I really want is ________________________________.

Breathe in deeply, then breathe out slowly.

Let yourself sense how this statement makes you feel.

Choose…

Consider what came to mind…

Is this something that you’d like to try for the first time, revisit, pursue or bring back into your life now?

If it feels like it might belong in your now, give some thought to how that would make you feel.

How would that change your “Fine”?

Now think about one step toward this concept.

Not an entire revamp of your current life. Just one simple step. Something you could do today, this week.

Something REAL.

Once you have that step in mind, the choice is yours. Is this a step you’re going to take?

You May Realize

Even a few quiet minutes can shift something inside us – create a clearer sense of direction, less mental noise, more steadiness in your body, a sense of confidence.

Revisit

Come back to this exercise whenever you feel the need. You don’t have to figure out your whole life in 5 minutes. You’re just learning to connect with what you discover in this brief moment.

Learning to hear your SELF above everything else for a change.
