About Me

Hello! I’m Maryanne, from Sewing Seams Easy,

successful sewing starts here!

I created Sewing Seams Easy because I want to help you be more creative with fabric — whether it is making clothes or soft furnishings, or upcycling unloved items around the house, near Liskeard, Cornwall..

Why Do I Teach Sewing?

I love teaching people to sew, I’m a bargain hunter, design lover, incurable DIY-er, mother of one and

grandmother of one!

I learn to sew at a very young age and it is a skill I love to share with others. I love to upcycle & refashion clothing & fabric. Cheap fashion takes a huge toll on our planet, 21 billion tons of textiles are dumped every year! I can show you how to reuse fabrics, save them from landfills, making beautiful individual garments/soft furnishings/toys/decorations.

I live in beautiful Cornwall with my husband, 2 dogs & 2 cats! Life could never be called boring.

Read why I do what I do…

Why I do what I do!

Lots of reasons! To bring women together — women talk while they sew —groups become friends.

Women support and listen to each other, and learn while sewing. It is therapeutic, and a hobby you can share at any age. These days for people struggling with their mental health, the meditative action of sewing encourages positivity & feelings of relaxation. It promotes brain growth, and the creative nature of sewing encourages the formation of new brain cells!

Sewing increases dopamine in the brain, which makes us feel happy. It even fights dementia, keeping the mind clear, focused & active, which can help prevent dementia as we age! Improving hand/eye coordination, sewing requires a certain type of attention to detail, which encourages coordination, especially hand/eye.

Creating a support network to help each other, so no one will feel lonely, or feel that no one listens to them. We can laugh at our mistakes – learn from them. Pass on the knowledge to our children and grandchildren.

It’s a life skill you know! It truly makes us appreciate the work that goes into making good clothes that last, AND having things that fit properly!

Being able to look around your home and say, “I made those cushions/curtains/soft furnishings.”

I am contributing to the environment by refashioning/upcycling fabrics.

Why not join us?

I have a simple dream: transforming the drab into fab with an arsenal of needles and thread. I often shop in charity shops, car boot sales, flea markets, and antique stores with an eye for repurposing the objects I find.

I’ve made clothes and soft furnishings for people since I was a young child, starting off with dressing my dolls!

My Mum taught me to sew and I also had some lessons at school but mostly it’s been a case of passion joined with practice.

See you soon, near Liskeard, Cornwall.
