The Sacred Lotus Journey: A Recovery Journey Through Creative Arts, Contemplative Practice & Sacred Healing
Coming Fall 2026
Expressive Practices For Recovery and Soul Restoration
Art, music, writing, and movement have the innate power to rejuvenate and heal the mind, body, and spirit—no experience or skill required.
These forms of expression tap into something deep and universal within us, offering a way to release tension, process emotions, and reconnect with joy. When approached with openness rather than perfection, they become accessible doorways to self-discovery, play, and renewal. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush, journaling your thoughts, swaying to gentle music, singing or simply allowing your body to move, each creative act becomes a healing invitation to return to yourself with compassion and ease.
For the recovery community, this presents a different option that can be used adjacent to or as a sole methodology for addiction recovery, addressing grief and trauma that walk hand in hand in addiction.
This process is not solely for the recovery community, however, the stories and process is designed for that space. All individuals can benefit from the process.
What do you mean by addiction? As human's our minds, bodies and spirits become compulsive and patterned through the use of different substances, experiences, foods, processes that initiate strong dopamine hits and a reward cycle that powerfully keeps us locked into destructive actions, behaviors, thoughts and processes. When these processes become so compulsive and embedded that they are hurting you, causing legal, relational, emotional or health issues, we consider that something to be addressed professionally.
Is this AA or something like that? No. This is not a 12 step program, but you could use it as a companion to a 12 step program that goes deeper into the consciousness.
Is this for individuals wanting to better themselves or for clinicians? It's for both actually. As we move to the official roll out this fall, you will see the complete suite of opportunities, resources and options.
Not just another art class.
Healing is the Discovery of the Divine Within - Ernest Holmes
Nature is expression of Divine Imagination. - John o’Donahue, Anam Cara
All the workshops are grounded in presence inviting you in Sacred Connection with spirit, however you define that, as you move intuitively with materials. We define it as loving energy. Images, messages, profound thoughts, silent peace, unraveled emotions, catharsis, can all be a part of the experience. It is a process that involves mindfulness, meditation, guided imagery and openness. It also involves courage, to lay down defenses and hear the deepest parts of you.
Jes is a former K-12 art teacher with decades of experience teaching art and exploring materials with people. When she transitioned careers to mental health and addiction counseling, she began to incorporate her studio work with treatment modalities like expressive arts therapy and art therapy concepts. Her focus in these classes is to provide experiences that help you discover more about yourself, encourage creative expression and catharsis and allow space where you are seen, heard and connected. With her background in depth psychology, mysticism, and ancestral lineage, she leads you through spaces virtually or in person that meet you where you are and invite you to go deeper into yourself and explore-- creatively, emotionally, philosophically and see what is revealed in the end. She includes her original sound medicine helps you learn to listen and trust yourself, your intuitive wisdom, not the chaotic mind--and know the difference between which is which.
What faith practice is this? We remain interfaith, inter spiritual and earth based (pantheist).
Jes Wen'de Waters
Hi, I’m Jes Wen’de Waters, pronounced (Jes When-Day Wah-ters). My pronouns are she/her. I reside on the land once home to the Osage, Hopewell, Wyandotte, Shawnee, Odawa, Pawnee, where the path of the Underground Railroad led to freedom.
My lineage, 1,500 years. One living line, from the Picts in Scotland. Another, founding Quakers in the U.S. who knew, you needed to only sit in the stillness of earth and communion and be present, to know God, to channel spirit.
My ancestors built their entire spiritual lives around a single radical conviction — that every human being has direct, unmediated access to divine truth. No priest. No creed. No intermediary. The sacred is available to anyone willing to become still enough to receive it.
My indigenous line knew that too. No Gatekeepers. No doctrines. Just the land, it’s music, and you.
I create these offerings as devotional prayers for the individual, group worship and prayers. The intention is always to bring you closer to union with God, Spirit.
Everything is original and available for licensing. All music is registered with BMI.

My public art practice includes being selected as a Kansas City Parade of Hearts Selected Artist for both the 2024 and 2026 Parade of Hearts Public Sculpture Installation and Exhibit. I also create commissioned, culturally rooted works that engage transpersonal themes and therapeutic expressive arts methodologies, often developed in collaboration with individuals, communities, and organizations.
Contemplation and observation have been fundamental parts of my life. Opening to transcendent spiritual connection in creative union with God, I compose/arrange music and song, author books and create interdisciplinary media works of art that express what I see in the world. It becomes, at a point in process, the deepest and purest connection with spirit, where I am guided by the Creator.
Music was my first love and my compositions that range from nearly two decades in ambient and new age sound and soundtrack, to now, embracing fully my singer songwriter self allow the the unique triune of visual art development, motion graphics turned into film shorts and accompanied by originally composed music.
This has been my trajectory, given a vision that had to wait for right time, right place, right tech, right learning, right action to make it's way into the world. My work traverses faith systems and embraces spiritual expressions of energy, meditation and universal love, and focus on awareness, ancestry, healing and teaching others how to see in spiderwebs-- that all things are connected-- even in the arts.
As a composer, songwriter, vocalist and recording artist, I have released a discography of over 30 albums since 2009. Selected compositions have been licensed for film, including The Cabin, featured at the Tribeca Film Festival, and my work has been released commercially throughout the globe.
Some of my small works can be seen at Creative Spark Gallery at Englewood Row in the Englewood Arts District in Independence, Missouri and have been shown throughout North America including Canyon Road in Santa Fe and the Laguna Arts District in California.
I enjoy living on the Kansas Prairie and communing with nature.
