What a Blind Kitten Taught Me About Trusting God

After losing my dog Franklin, I found myself quietly longing for another companion. Not because I wanted to replace him, but because my heart missed having a little soul to care for. I prayed with openness that God would bring the right animal into my life, in His timing. I didn’t know when or how. I didn't even have a preference; I just knew that I wanted to be able to nurture and care for another animal the way I had with him.

A few months after making my request, I was walking home from work one evening, and that prayer was answered in the most unexpected way. I had my headphones in, blocking out the noise of the world with some smooth jazz, when I noticed a tiny Tabby kitten limping toward me from across the street. At first, I thought she was just another curious cat, but then I saw something that made my heart stop: a car was speeding toward her. They clearly couldn't see her, and she just kept going forward, as if unaware. That’s when I realized she was blind.

Without thinking, I ran into the street to grab her. The car slammed on its brakes as I waved my hand frantically in their direction before scooping her up and bringing her home. That’s how Toph came into my life—a blind little kitten who had been wandering without protection, without guidance, without knowing where her next step would lead.

Since then, she’s been my little shadow, a gentle reminder of something far greater.

Watching her trust me without question, to lead her to food and to safety made me see something I’d missed in my own life. Sometimes we cannot see the path ahead of us. Sometimes the way is unclear, and the road feels uncertain. But God calls us to trust Him in the same way.

If a blind kitten can trust me completely, then surely I can trust God, who knows the way forward for my life even when I cannot see it.

Toph’s story has become a living lesson for me; that trust is not about having all the answers, but about resting in the One who does.

I'm currently holding a fundraiser for Toph who needs urgent eye surgery to prevent infection and give her the best chance at healing. Your gift makes her treatment and recovery possible.

If you feel led to give, you can donate here.

Every gift makes a difference. All proceeds go toward her surgery and recovery care.

Toph’s journey has been about more than survival. It has been a lesson in faith, trust, and God’s perfect timing. I pray her story inspires you to trust God too—even when you can’t see the road ahead.
