Love is not like a fairytale. Don't get me wrong. I love the stories of Mulan, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and so on. But I have realized that true love isn't love at first sight or having a big huge magical moment. Love is more simple.
Love is holding someone's hand, being honest with them, writing a note, doing the dishes, spending time together, changing the baby's diaper, cooking, sending a text. Love is always willing to work together and service one another. Also, good looks might help too. 😘
I didn't realize what love is until I met my sweet husband Nathan. He made me realize that it isn't always butterflies in my stomach or having that Disney moment where you know that your boyfriend/girlfriend is your soulmate. My love for Nathan is nothing I have ever experienced. He is the most handsome man especially when his hair is all messy and he just woke up. I love when he drives me places. I love when he suggests we go on walks and talk about anything and everything. I love when he makes our son laugh. I love when he cuddles me. This is not a Disney moment and there will never be one. But in my mind, I would not have it any other way.
This love is similar to God's love to us. It is Him being constantly there for us even when we are not perfect. He forgives us when we repent. He gives us comfort and peace. He encourages us to become better. He lifts us up. He holds our hand. God's love is above anything in the whole world. Without His love, I could not experience the love that I have for my husband.
Yes, this all sounds great and perfect but life does have it's ups and downs. We struggle, have disagreements, sickness, and many other things. But we have overcome these trials by being consistent with our love and service. Just like God's love will never end or go away. An apostle, Elder Holland, describes God's love,
"When the love of God sets the tone for our own lives, for our relationships to each other and ultimately our feeling for all humankind, then old distinctions, limiting labels, and artificial divisions begin to pass away, and peace increases. But the first great truth in the universe is that God loves us exactly that way—wholeheartedly, without reservation or compromise, with all of His heart, might, mind, and strength. And when those majestic forces from His heart and ours meet without restraint, there is a veritable explosion of spiritual, moral power."
Love is so powerful. You can experience this love anytime. God is on his tippy toes waiting and reaching you to give you that love. We may have to struggle and push through to find it but it is always there. Elder Holland stated that His love has no restraint. I encourage you to look for His love and you will find true love. Remember this love is nothing like Disney moments.
I am grateful that I get to experience love every single day. I am thankful for Nathan and his example of love. I love each of you. God loves you.
Have Hope. Stay Strong and Follow Christ.
