With technology constantly evolving, 2025 brings even more helpful tools to keep you organised and connected on the go. Here’s a list of must-have travel apps that every smart traveller should download before their next trip. Ps. These are all the apps i use too.

1. Google Maps – Your Go-To for Navigation

Still a staple in 2025, Google Maps remains one of the most reliable apps for navigating unfamiliar places. Whether you're walking through a European old town or trying to find your hotel late at night, this app offers real-time directions, public transport options and most important, offline maps.

Pro tip: Download your map area in advance to access it even when you’re offline.

2. Sygic – Advanced GPS with Offline Access

Sygic is a powerful navigation app known for its offline GPS functionality and real-time traffic updates. Perfect for road trips, especially in remote areas with limited internet access. It also includes features like speed limit warnings and fuel price comparisons.

3. Booking.com

One of the most widely used platforms for booking accommodations, from hotels to vacation homes it offers flexible cancellation policies, verified guest reviews and great deals worldwide, making it a reliable choice for any traveller. The more your book, the more you can save with their loyalty program.

4. Agoda

Specialising in accommodations, it provides access to a vast selection of hotels, hostels and vacation rentals worldwide. Its competitive pricing and user reviews help travellers find the perfect place to stay. Sometimes prices are even cheaper than booking.com.

5. Revolut

A banking app that simplifies international money management. Revolut offers real exchange rates, fee-free currency conversions and also some budgeting tools, making it one of my favorite apps.

6. Skyscanner – Flights, Hotels and Car Rentals

Skyscanner continues to be a favorite for comparing flight prices across airlines. In 2025, the app also offers great hotel and car rental options. Its “Everywhere” search is perfect for spontaneous travellers looking for inspiration on where to go next.

7. Ryanair & Turkish Airlines Apps – Airline-Specific Tools

If you fly with Ryanair or Turkish Airlines, their official apps are essential. From checking in online, downloading your boarding pass and receiving real-time flight updates, these apps save time and reduce airport stress.

Why they matter: Some budget airlines charge extra for airport check-in, so having the app helps you avoid those unnecessary fees.

8. Google Translate – Break the Language Barrier

Communicating in a foreign language is easier than ever. Google Translate now supports real-time conversation translation, camera scanning for signs and menus and offline language packs. It’s an absolute game-changer for immersive travel.

9. Currency – Live Currency Converter

Knowing how much you’re spending is crucial. The Currency app gives you up-to-date exchange rates and lets you convert prices on the spot. It’s a simple but essential tool for budgeting abroad.

10. Uber – Reliable Rides Around the World

From quick airport pickups to late-night rides back to your hotel, Uber is still one of the most widely used ride-hailing apps globally. In many cities, it’s more affordable and safer than local taxis.

Bonus: In some countries like for example Vietnam, Uber also offers scooter and bike rentals through the same app.

11. Rome2Rio – Understand Your Transport Options

Ever wondered how to get from one town to another? Rome2Rio shows you how – whether it's train, bus, ferry, or flight and gives estimated costs and travel times.

Whether you're looking for a skip-the-line museum ticket, a guided food tour, or an unforgettable day trip, GetYourGuide offers thousands of activities around the world. With verified reviews and mobile tickets, planning activities in advance (or even last minute) is stress-free and secure.

Why it’s great: It focuses on local connections and affordable options, making planning seamless in a region where transport info can be scattered.

16. Car Hire: When it comes to renting a car, there are several apps and websites we rely on. However, this is a detailed topic on its own, which I’ve covered in a separate blog post titled “Useful Things to Know About Hiring a Car During Your Trip.” I highly recommend giving it a read if you're considering renting a car on your travels!
