Welcome! My Effort Tracker is a private work log that helps you follow through on your projects. You have two ways to use it, and you can switch between them at any time. Pick whichever suits you best.

OPTION 1 — CONVENIENCE FIRST (recommended for most people)

Best if: You use more than one device and want them all to stay in sync automatically.

How it works:

1. When you buy the app, Payhip sends you an email receipt containing a unique license key. Look for the email from Payhip (check your spam folder if you don't see it).

2. Open the app on any device. Find the section called "Sync across devices".

3. Paste your license key into the field and click Save key.

4. That's it. Repeat on any other device where you want to see your entries — phone, laptop, tablet — using the same key.

Anywhere you paste that key, you'll see the same entries. Add something on your phone, and it appears on your laptop a moment later.

What stays private:

• Your key is stored only on your device. We never see it.

• Your entries are stored securely on our sync servers (encrypted at rest) so they can travel between your devices.

• Only someone with your key can access your data.

• No accounts, no passwords, no emails required.

• No cookies, no tracking, no analytics.

Keeping your key safe:

Your license key is how the app knows it's you. Treat it like a password:

• Keep it somewhere safe — your email receipt, a password manager, or a note on your phone.

• If you lose it, you can request it again through Payhip's customer portal using the email you purchased with.

• Don't post it publicly or share it with others — anyone with your key can read and write your entries.

OPTION 2 — PRIVACY FIRST (fully offline)

Best if: You want maximum privacy and only use one device, or you don't mind moving files manually.

How it works:

1. Just open the app and start using it. Don't add a license key.

2. Every entry is saved right there in your browser's local storage.

3. Nothing is ever sent to a server. Not even we can see your entries.

Moving your data between devices:

Since nothing syncs automatically, you move your log yourself. It takes about 30 seconds:

1. On the device that has your data, open the app and click Export backup. You'll get a file called my-effort-tracker-backup.json.

2. Send that file to your other device — email it to yourself, drop it in cloud storage, or use a USB drive. Whatever's easiest.

3. On the new device, open the app and click Import backup, then choose that file.

The app will also remind you once a week to make a fresh backup, so you don't lose track of things.

What stays private:

• Everything. Your data never leaves your device.

• No accounts, no keys, no servers.

• No cookies, no tracking, no analytics.

WHICH SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

• Want automatic sync across phone, laptop, and tablet? → Choose Convenience First.

• Want maximum privacy on a single device? → Choose Privacy First.

• Want to start private and add a key later? → Start with Privacy First — you can paste a key whenever you like.

• Want to stop syncing and go back to fully local? → Remove your key in the sync section at any time.

You can switch between the two whenever you want. Removing your key doesn't delete anything — it just stops sending new changes to the server.

A QUICK TOUR OF THE APP

• Today tab — where you capture what you worked on. Fill in the project, describe what you did, and save.

• To do tab — everything you marked as outstanding, so nothing slips through.

• Projects tab — a bird's-eye view of every project, with the most recent activity and the people involved.

• Find an entry — search by text, project, status, or a date range.

• Export / Import backup — makes a portable copy of everything, or brings one back in.

• Personalise colours — four palettes to match your mood. Dark mode toggle in the top right.

GETTING UPDATES

When we release a new version, you'll receive an email through Payhip letting you know. Your original download link always points to the latest version, so you can just re-download and replace your old copy. Your data stays intact.

You can also log into your Payhip customer account at any time to access every product you've purchased.
