Story

Stella and her friends were filming a YouTube video. Stella was behind the cameras, helping position the actors. Suddenly, she tripped over a tripod that was lying on the floor and fell on her leg. She started screaming in pain, and her friends ran to help. Stella said she couldn’t put her foot on the ground. So, they helped her up and sat her down on the couch. Other people on the set carried Stella to one of the cars and took her to the hospital.

There, she had an X-ray and found out she had broken her fifth metatarsal. A little while later, her friends arrived at the hospital and found Stella sitting in the waiting room. Stella told them she had broken her foot and was waiting to get her cast put on. One of her friends tried to cheer her up by saying, “At least you’re gonna get a bunch of signatures!” Stella gave a small smile and was soon called into the cast room.

It wasn’t the first time Stella had been in this situation — she had used an SLWC once before, a few years ago, after a hiking accident. She remembered how frustrating it was at first, not being able to move around freely, but also how strangely fun it had been when her friends decorated the cast and treated her like royalty for weeks. This time, she hoped it would be just as smooth.

Her friends waited outside. About 20 minutes later, Stella came out hopping on one leg, with a heavy SLWC on her left leg. As she hopped over to her friends, she found the whole situation kind of funny — almost like déjà vu.

For her friends, it was the first time they’d ever seen an SLWC, so they asked a bunch of questions. One of them was: “What’s that black thing under the cast?” Stella said, “It’s a little walking heel. The doctor said I can put weight on it after 36 hours.”

Her friends kept asking questions while helping Stella get back to her apartment.

This video series starts with Stella arriving at her apartment.
