MUSAN Underwater Museum

The MUSAN Museum of Underwater Sculpture is located in Ayia Napa, Cyprus and was created during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

The project was commissioned by the Municipality of Ayia Napa, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research and the Ministry of Tourism.


The museum is located next to Pernera beach, 100-200m inside the sea at a depth of 8-10 meters.


The sculptures at the MUSAN Museum of Underwater Sculpture were created by the renowned British artist, Jason deCaires Taylor, and consist of a total of 93 pieces. Visitors to the museum can explore the stunning underwater exhibits, which include intricate human forms and other creative sculptures. The museum provides a unique opportunity to experience art in an unconventional setting and offers a fascinating glimpse into the world beneath the waves.



British artist Jason deCaires Taylor, were designed to attract marine life on a large scale and develop organically. In particular, the sculptures that represent trees are strategically placed at various depths from the sea floor to the surface, creating a path through an underwater forest. The tree forms float just beneath the surface, providing a complex environment for marine life at all levels. The installation of these sculptures has created a unique underwater ecosystem, attracting a diverse array of marine life and promoting ecological awareness among visitors to the museum.
