Live Performance ‘静と動’
I did a live calligraphy performance in the middle of a vast rice field. It was a magical moment where nature and calligraphy blended beautifully.
This performance took place in a town called Deyang, about 100km north of Chengdu. The space was called “MianHe Community,” and it’s going to become an artist-in-residence space in the future.
I created two pieces during the performance.

The first, “柒,” was inspired by the owner’s name, which means “seven.” I used the Chinese traditional style to write the numbers 1 to 10, with 7 as the centerpiece.

The second piece, “綿河,” was based on the name of the location. The kanji for “cotton” and “river” are the same in both Chinese and Japanese, and I found it fascinating how the characters connect our cultures.
The team there was full of professional photographers who even used a drone to take some amazing shots of my work.
It was such a beautiful place, and I’d love to stay there when the artist-in-residence program starts!
