I couldn't help myself. I had to put down my "year of the FO" knitting project and pick up my hook to do a little crochet. I started a new project: Lullaby (a baby blanket) designed by Erika Knight for Rowan using Rowan Baby Cashsoft Merino. Maybe it was the simplicity of the design, maybe it was the softness of the yarn (57% wool, 33% acrylic, 10% cashmere) or the colours I choose; maybe it was all of the above, but I was hooked! I picked up the project on a weekend and two weeks later... it's washed and drying on my blocking mats. I'm thinking about starting another one or maybe doing it in smaller squares this time and going bigger...
Lullaby is available as a downloadable pattern from Ravelry or from Rowan Yarns (and there's a kit version at Rowan as well). I liked Erika's colour options but you know me! I had to choose my own colour combo, so I went with: 1 ball each of: Snowflake (101), Duckline (124), Pickles (123), Sea Green (108) and 2 balls each of: Rosy (115) and Denim (112). I love it!
Barb and I will be teaching a crochet class, using this project as the sample, at the end of May. I know that seems like a long way off, but it'll be here before you know it! If you'd like to learn how to crochet, or to crochet better, come and join us! We'll put a notice of the class on our main page and on our events page and in our social media posts so you won't miss out. The pattern will come with the class registration so if you just want to gather supplies, you'll need: a 4.5mm (UK 7) (US 7) crochet hook, 8 balls of Rowan Cashsoft Merino or Summerlite DK in 6 colours for the striped version or 6 balls if you'd prefer to work a one-colour version.
