"I can't get married yet, because I don't have a car."
This is my first ever car, I bought it AFTER I got married.
Yes, I married my wife without owning a car.
At the time, we didn’t have a lot.
I was starting out as a public speaker. She was starting out as a teacher. We lived in a cheap rental home. Though the rent was only RM500, it took away 1/4 of my monthly income.
Not bad la kan?
One day, we decided that we need a car. Our mindset was simple: a car is used to get us safely from point A to point B. We put our “image” and luxury far away from the picture. Since we don’t have a lot, so we decided to buy a second-hand car.
We consulted a mechanic to understand the risks and ask for advice on picking an excellent second-hand car. He was super helpful and even offered to test the car out.
We searched online for weeks and found one posting for a Myvi, lightly used by a lady who lived nearby. We set an appointment and met up with the owner. Drove the car, used some tips from the mechanic on what to pay attention to, and ended up buying the car in cash.
I borrowed some money from my father. No bank loans. Paid him back within 2 years and the “Black Stallion” was 100% owned by me.
This car has got me through thick and thin.
I took my wife to all her doctor appointments during pregnancy in this car. My firstborn child was taken home from the hospital in this car. The first experience we had with a car seat was in this car.
I spilled coffee in this car and spent weeks removing the odor!
I have many important and silly memories of the Black Stallion.
But alas, that time has come and he needs to retire. Maybe a new owner can make better use of him.
