Unit 5: Sight Words

Unit 5 teaches the student to read and memorize high frequency words that he would often encounter in kindergarten. To use this unit, the student should have completed Unit 4, and should be able to sound out three letter words from major word families. Those words are used, but not taught, in this unit. The student should also be able to write the letters.

This unit contains about 55 pages of material, including instructions, cards, and worksheets. Using those materials, the student will learn to read kindergarten-level high frequency words. He will read the words both individually and in sentences. The student will be introduced to questions and names, as well as reading familiar words that have an "s" added to them.

When finished with this unit, the student will be able to read sentences and stories with both memorized words and words that he must sound out.
