Invisible Horizon for horn takes inspiration from ideas of a black hole. Sometimes the horn plays long, floating melodies, conjuring images of drifting through space; at other times it is intense and clipped, as though being subjected to an intense physical force. Beyond the event horizon of a black hole, time and space is warped beyond all recognition. This concept of warping makes its way into Invisible Horizon through subtle elongation and contraction of phrases, and through the technique of sliding between an open note and one that is stopped by the hand, producing a strange, filtered sound. Blacks holes are discovered by observing celestial objects orbiting an invisible object, and in this piece the harmony rotates around an unheard note until the very last phrase.
