Dye Garden Manual
Dyeing with plants is an old craft which is becoming popular again. I got into botanical dyeing and have been experimenting with local fresh plants a lot since then. After trying so many plants from my local park, I decided to go a step further and start my own Dye Garden Project.
This digital project manual will provide you with the following:
- Requirements for the seeds to germinate and grow
- Cultivation tips
- Harvesting tips
- Recipes for extracting pigments from plants
Which plants are covered?
Seven popular dye plants with great dyeing potential (hardiness zone in brackets):
- Chamomile (3–7)
- Weld (5–9)
- Coreopsis (6–9)
- Marigold (6–9)
- Madder (5–9)
- Hollyhock (3–9)
- Woad (6–9)
All plants can survive in hardiness zones 6–7, most of them tolerate zones 6–9. Please check your climate zone before purchasing.
The plants I chose can get you a full rainbow of colours after dyeing and overdyeing fabrics.
