In 1947, an obnoxious director produces the most successful movie ever using cruelty and fear to extract good performances. When his movie fails to get any notable Oscars he decides to create a horror film with the most downbeat ending. Financing becomes difficult and only by eliminating anyone in his way can he get it made.
Steven gets the whole atmosphere right, down to the Oscar ceremony itself.
Harcourt is deliciously egocentric not unlike some actual directors at the time.
I didn't expcect it to take a turn from something light and comedic to much darker.
