In my current instructional setting, I am working in a Title 1 low-income school. There is an average of 60% of students on free and reduced lunch, and a lot of movement of migrant families. Our district is a minority majority with over 70% Hispanic and most coming to school speaking little to no English. Currently in my classroom of 21 first graders, 9 are English Language Learners and vary in proficiency of English. 2 are newcomers, 4 are almost proficient and close to exiting their language program, and the rest are somewhere in the middle. I also have 2 students with learning disability IEPs; one in reading, one in all content areas.
