The day John is born an unseen visitor pays the infant a visit. This entity also visits Sarah the day after he is brought home from the hospital. On John's 13th birthday he goes into a coma with unusual causes and symptoms.
These events transform John and Sarah in ways not known to anyone at the time. As they grow up, those changes become more and more evident.
