Joana arrives home limping, unable to hide a soft moan with nearly every step. Just minutes earlier, she twisted her ankle on the stairs of her apartment building, and the pain has been growing ever since. She can't tell whether it's a severe sprain or something worse, but one thing is certain - putting weight on it is becoming increasingly difficult.

She carefully hops over to a chair to rest for a moment. As she catches her breath, she notices her ankle already beginning to swell. The throbbing becomes more intense with every passing minute, and she realizes she needs to do something before it gets any worse.

Determined to cool it down, Joana limps to the kitchen to get some ice. Once back, she settles onto a bar stool and gently presses the ice against her injured ankle, hoping for some relief. Unable to walk properly and unsure what to do next, she starts thinking about who could help her. Then she remembers that her neighbor Alex works at a hospital and might be able to take a look at it.

She gives him a call and asks if he could come over to check her ankle.

When Alex arrives, the first thing he does is remove her shoe and sock. Even this simple task proves painful, causing Joana to react as the injured ankle is exposed. After taking a quick look, he decides the ankle needs a proper examination to make sure it isn't broken. He suggests moving to the sofa, where she can be more comfortable.

Supporting her carefully, he helps Joana limp into the living room. Once there, he elevates her injured foot on a cushion and applies more ice while the swelling continues to develop.

After a while, Alex explains that he needs to perform a full examination. He begins by gently pressing around different areas of her foot and ankle. Whenever his fingers move near the ankle bone, Joana winces and complains about the pain. The area is clearly very sensitive.

Next comes testing the movement of the joint. As he carefully rotates and flexes her foot, the discomfort becomes even more noticeable. Every movement reminds her just how injured the ankle really is. After several more painful tests, Alex finally gives his opinion - it appears to be a bad sprain rather than a fracture.

Relieved that it doesn't seem broken, Joana allows him to wrap the ankle securely for support. He carefully applies a compression bandage and then fits an Aircast brace over it to stabilize the injury. With her ankle finally supported and protected, all that's left to do is rest and let the recovery begin.
