The Madonna of Dunkirk

An elderly woman on the east coast of Britain fancies that if she sits on a specific pew in the ruins of her old church, she can speak to and guide the steps of the stranded soldiers on the beach at Dunkirk, across the channel. She also claims that a statue of the Virgin Mary has instructed her to go to war personally against Herr Hitler, promising that she and the host of heaven will be at her back. With a touch of Gallico's Snow Goose, a healthy addition of the supernatural goes where no one could have predicted, as the village tries to bring her to her senses.
