The American flag, often called the Stars and Stripes, has a rectangular design with the following features:

Proportions

• Official aspect ratio: 1.9:1 (width is 1.9 times the height).

Colors

• Red: Seven horizontal stripes.
• White: Six horizontal stripes.
• Blue: A rectangular canton (top-left corner) called the "union."

Stripes

• 13 alternating horizontal stripes:
• 7 red (top and bottom stripes are red).
• 6 white.
• These represent the 13 original colonies.

Canton (Union)

• A blue rectangle in the top-left corner.
• Contains 50 white five-pointed stars.
• Stars are arranged in nine rows alternating five and six stars (to represent the 50 states).

Symbolism
