One of most amazing aspects, when taking shots from an Oregon beach, is when you get as close to the surf as possible.

The waves, or breakers appear to be many feet above your head. I kept on checking to see if I was in some sort of trouble, and about to get fully swamped. The only explanation is that the breakers were, indeed, that much higher than my head. They then lose all their elevation in the few short yards between where you watch them breaking, and the 6 inches of water flowing over your feet.
