The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: The Fundamentals Everyone Needs to Know
This set of lectures will examine the history of Israel since it achieved independence in 1948 with special focus on its complicated, darkening relationship with Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and elsewhere. We will also explore the role of Israel’s neighbors such as Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia and other key actors such as the United States and Russia. In addition, we will examine the importance of the Six Days War in 1967, the Yom Kippur War in 1973, the First Intifada from 1987 to 1993 and the worsening of relations since 2000 as both sides increasingly view the other as threats to their basic existence.
