Bloodline A Family Affair Volume 1. Growing up in the 1970s and 80s, I never knew what a story my life would become. Friends that knew me would always joke, “You could be on The Oprah Winfrey Show with the story of your parents' life”. Nowadays, probably Dr. Phil.

It all really started for me when I was 12 living in a small duplex in Brighton, Michigan. You could say I was protected and looked after well by my mother and father. I was an only child, school going, playing sports, doing all the things normal kids do. Now, I was no angel. I was a redheaded kid with a slight temper, well, a huge temper when I didn't get my way. I loved playing outside to the point that I had to be outdoors almost all the time. I used to ice skate, play baseball, football, basketball, build forts, and even tried smoking once in a while as the occasional mischief.

My mother, a beautiful brunette, had high energy and a passion for cleanliness and neatness. Everything had to be perfect in our house. We all had our chores, and mine consisted of straightening out my room and making sure my bed was always made. My mother was meticulous when it came to neatness, so much so that her need to keep the house spic and span drove me crazy. Not that I could say anything, for my mother had a temper too. If I were to describe her, I would say she was a mix of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. She was so loving, caring, sweet, and giving, but then she would snap, she would yell, scream, and swear at the drop of a hat. Occasionally, I'd get smacked for talking back, and trust me, most times, my little butt deserved it. I was this red headed freckle-faced, smart ass kid who had the potential to turn into a little brat if it had not been for my mother's discipline. But boy, could we push each other's buttons. Like mother, like son, and I say that so very fondly now that I know that the change in my mother's temper and mood from good to bad was a result of the day-to-day stresses that she went through related to things I couldn't even imagine.
