A Celtic Quilt 1 combines a scrumptious collection of cabled blocks into a quilt landscape ~ an heirloom knit to be treasured.

Pattern Notes
The quilt itself consists of 9 cabled blocks; however, the pattern includes a 10th bonus block. The 10th block may be used as an extra choice when choosing the nine blocks for the quilt or may be used to create a coordinating pillow front (while directions to create pillow not included, instructions are provided for working the Outer Border around a single block). All blocks are identical in size and therefore may be assembled in any combination; the blocks are also square allowing the blocks to be oriented either vertically or horizontally.

Both charts and written directions are provided for each block - charts are included in the body of this pattern; Written Directions for the charts are in the supplemental PDF file that accompanies this pattern.

Construction Notes
Each block begins with a provisional cast on. Once the cable pattern is complete, stitches are picked up along each side of the block as well as from the cast on to work the Single Moss Edging. This edging is worked in the round, outward.

Blocks may be either bound off (to be sewn together later) or the final round of stitches may be left live (so blocks can be joined using a 3-Needle Bind Off - links to a photo tutorial are included; full instructions for the 3-Needle Bind Off are not included in this pattern). Directions for both methods are included. Directions are also included for two variations of implementing the 3-Needle Bind Off. The Outer Border, when worked around an individual block, creates a pillow front 18 x 18” / 45.5 x 45.5cm). Note: Specific instructions for constructing a pillow are not included in this pattern.

9-Block Quilt (including Outer Border): 46 x 46” / 117 x 117cm
Each Block: 14 x 14” / 35.5 x 35.5cm
Outer Border Width: 2” / 5cm

See Miscellaneous Yarn Information below re: yarn requirements for the 10th block and border for individual blocks.

1880 yds / 1720 m worsted-weight wool will create the 9-Block Quilt with Outer Border (Note: use a yarn that blocks well)
