This is the pattern I give to anyone who tells me they want to try amigurumi but think it looks too hard. It doesn't use anything clever. If you can make a single crochet stitch and work in a spiral, you can make this panda — and once you've made one amigurumi, every other one makes sense.

Not suitable as a toy for children under 3 — the safety eyes are small parts. For a baby, embroider the eyes in black yarn instead. The pattern tells you how.

If you've never made an amigurumi before, start with the head. It's the largest piece, the shaping is the most forgiving, and by the time it's stuffed you'll already understand everything the rest of the pattern asks of you.
