I was pleasantly surprised with the twists and turns this book takes, I just could not put it down. The pages kept turning until I was at the end. I can’t wait to find out what happens to Dorothy next, really hoping for a second book. Don’t miss reading this! 3.5 ⭐️ from me! The Perfect Wife was a fun little suspenseful novella. The story follows Dorothy, a housewife who has everything under control, from her appearance to her home. Her husband, Thomas, is also the perfect husband and together they have an envious life. Dorothy notices the smallest details, and picks up on subtle changes in Thomas’ demeanor and attitude over time, leading to a revelation about their seemingly quaint life together. I loved the depiction of marital life and the psychological pressure to be “the perfect wife”. I like the suspense as I waited for her to make her next move.

The only thing that didn’t fully work for me was the pacing. The middle of the story moved a little slower than I personally prefer, and a few scenes felt repetitive before the story really found its rhythm. Even though I was able to predict parts of the ending, I still enjoyed how it set the stage for what comes next. I look forward to seeing what’s next for Dorothy!

💭 My Thoughts
I have never read anything written in this style before and, to be honest, at first I didn’t think it was for me. However, after just a couple of chapters, I was hooked! The writing style completely intrigued me and kept me wanting more. I was constantly trying to imagine where the plot was taking me, and not once did I get it right! Mae Parsons did an amazing job of building the suspense while peeling back each layer of Dorothy and Thomas’ seemingly perfect life. I would recommend this short story to anyone who loves a suspenseful psychological thriller.
