Forgotten Continent: The Growing Crises in Latin America in the 21st Century
This set of four lectures will explore a series of separate crises that have wracked Latin
America in the 21st century, crises that have prompted unprecedented economic and
political instability, leading to levels of crime, unrest and immigration that have shaken
regional and US politics in the 2020s. Specifically, we will be examining Argentina,
Venezuela, Honduras, and El Salvador. For each, we will explore recent patterns of
history and economic development, with special emphasis placed on the unique tragic
trajectories each followed in the post-Cold War era.
