The Adventure of the Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
A frightened young woman arrives at Baker Street before sunrise. Two years ago, her twin sister died with strange last words: “The speckled band!” Now Helen Stoner has heard the same soft whistle in the night that her sister heard. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson must spend a night in a creepy old house with a short-tempered stepfather and some very odd clues. There is a bell-rope that rings no bell, a vent that leads nowhere, and a saucer of milk with no cat.
This was Arthur Conan Doyle’s own favorite Sherlock Holmes story. It is retold for readers aged 8–12 and illustrated in crayon and pencil.
