Studying for my final vet exam, I reconned it was the ideal time to be incubating eggs so I could keep a close eye on the situation amidst the South African loadshedding. My excitement grew, listening to the puny, invisible peeps while burning the midnight oil. Not very long after, three pairs of tiny feet were running after us all over the house or using our ever-patient, old dog as a fluffy bed. Saphira, Spyro and Toothless (yes, named after my favourite childhood dragons!) Anyone who has ever owned chickens has probably been amused by the merciless extravaganza that erupts when one of them finds a real juicy worm! I am convinced their ancestors must have been Velociraptors...
