Latvianesque
’Latvianesque’ is an infinitity scarf that is long enough to wrap around one’s neck for a super cosy scarf, or left to hang for a more dramatic look that will show off all the panels.
Beginning with a provisional cast-on, it is knit entirely in the round and only has a few ends to weave in. There are a few longer floats to manage, but still manageable for someone knew to colourwork. The scarf is then grafted together with kitchener stitch.
As the name suggests, the designs are inspired by and borrowed from traditional Latvian motifs.
Yarn: I used fingering weight yarns for my scarf from TedKnitsUK in the following amounts:
Colour A (Cauldron) - 90g - 382.5 meters (418.3 yards)
Colour B (Olive) - 92g - 391.0 meters (427.6 yards)
Colour C (Aquarium) - 72g - 306.0 meters (334.6 yards)
Colour D (Burnt Orange) - 97g - 412.3 meters (450.8 yards)
Colour E (Verbena) - 90g - 382.5 meters (418.3 yards)
Feel free, of course, to switch out with other yarns of a similar weight - I plan to knit myself one in Wollmeise :) There’s nothing to stop you, of course, from using yarns of other weights, but this will affect the size of the garment.
Gauge: 38 stitches by 36 rows in stranded colour work (post-blocking). Gauge is not critical, but a looser gauge may result in using more yarn.
Finished Dimensions: 26cm (approx 10.25”) width, 158cm (approx 62”) circumference.
